It went by so fast.
Now, for this VOL.6, as the first delivery for 2022 SPRING SUMMER has started, I'd like to talk a little bit about SF (SCIENCE FICTION) MOVIEs, which is also the theme for 2022 SPRING SUMMER, titled "SCIENCE FICTION".

How often do you all get to watch sci-fi worlds in movies, manga, or anime?
Probably not that often, huh?
Honestly, there aren't many people around me who still watch a ton of it... lol
As for me...
Well...
I love them. Simply put, sci-fi works. lol
Personally, sci-fi is an indispensable genre for me in movies, and I've loved it since I was old enough to remember.
My first sci-fi experience was when I was 5, when I saw that movie.
Yes, that one. It's called "STAR WARS."
I'm not sure how much of the story I understood at 5 years old, but that was definitely the trigger.
I vividly remember the McDonald's store being completely themed around "STAR WARS" back then.
I recall having plastic drink cups with character prints that I lined up at home.
I'm sure no one reading these LINER NOTES knows about this... lol
And as the 80s rolled in, I encountered many more masterpieces of sci-fi.
For me, the 80s were undeniably an SF bubble era.
There are too many titles to list, so I'll refrain, but I'd like to mention some 80s works that had a big impact on me!
■1980 Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back
■1983 Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi
These were definitely awaited with great anticipation back then.
Both films, not just for their stories but also for their increasingly amazing visuals and SFX, completely drew me into their worlds.
I bought a lot of official toys as well.
■1982 Blade Runner
Personally, this is a sci-fi movie masterpiece that I've rewatched many times.
It's a cult classic by director Ridley Scott, famous for the movie Alien, starring Harrison Ford, who was already a popular actor from Star Wars.
■1983 Harmagedon
This is a Japanese animated film that was released in theaters the same year as Return of the Jedi.
I remember going to see it back then.
Katsuhiro Otomo, the famous manga artist known for Akira, did the character design and original drawings. This movie was how I discovered Otomo and became a fan.
■1986 Aliens
This is a sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien, directed by James Cameron of Terminator fame.
I went to see it in theaters with a mix of anticipation and anxiety, wondering what a sequel directed by a different director would be like, especially a sequel to Alien.
It's a masterpiece that completely blew me away with its exquisite and uniquely compelling content.

■1988 Akira
I read the Akira serialization in Young Magazine and the wide-format comics, but when I heard it was being adapted into an anime movie, I was thrilled.
I've always loved Akira.
Growing up exposed to sci-fi like this, my preferences gradually developed a unique twist. lol
I somehow became drawn to works depicting the near future, and rather than fantastical sci-fi, I was captivated by works and visuals that had a sense of semi-reality, a plausible atmosphere of what could happen in the near future.
Finally, to the main topic. ww
For the 2022 SPRING SUMMER theme, I wanted to convey a positive message for the future in the production, so I wanted to pick out motifs that could evoke a somewhat realistic near future.
And the image that immediately came to mind was Blade Runner, released in 1982, which has held an unshakeable position in my mind for many years.
I drew inspiration from the intertwined races, cultures, and technologies existing in the near future within the iconic world depicted in Blade Runner, and how they coexist.
And "Coexistence" became the key theme for this season. The idea that hope is born through coexistence even with opposing elements, shaping a future that leads to tomorrow. And the belief in possibility is embedded in this season's theme.
